The Art in Interior Design
Interior design is an applied art that is a living and breathing thing. When Intrepid was asked to curate art and accessories for this modern southwestern home, it was a dream come true.
This home would be a secondary residence to be enjoyed throughout the generally sunny and warm Tucson winter. The clients purchased their home sight unseen during the pandemic and worked remotely to do an easy paint, kitchen, and lighting update to their new home.
Once they completed their update and visited their new property they noted the immense amount of blank space and a fantastic view of the eastern Catalina Mountain Range.
Intrepid Interior Design presented the client with a presentation of local artists and common southwestern art categories such as landscapes and animals. This initial review and discussion inspired Intrepid to put together art and design that was a little different than the traditional southwestern motif that most homes in the southwest seem to be stuck in.
Intrepid did a deep dive into the art world of the southwest visiting towns like Tubac, Carefree, and Nogales, Arizona.
Tubac, Arizona is a gold mine of art and accessories that only requires an inquisitive mind, a good pair of walking shoes, and a healthy appetite for southwestern cuisine.
All things southwestern can be seen, smelled, tasted, and experienced on a trip to and from the shops in Tubac. The sense of community leaves one with an impression of feeling at home.
The town of Carefree hosts an art festival that attracts artists from all over the southwest all while boasting rodeos, restaurants, and retail shops with a welcoming small-town southwestern American feel. Each corner of the art fair and the permanent art shops contained the best of the best when it comes to Western and Southwestern Artwork.
Less about the town and more about the location, Intrepid ventured into the hidden paradise of Holler and Saunders in Nogales, Arizona. The Spanish colonial-style mansion contains silver, furniture, and a wide variety of antiques as well as onsite dogs and a peacock to greet you as you tour the premises. Each room has a unique story that only the guides of the property can tell properly. The sense of presence comes from the historically saturated antiques that have an origin story of how they came to their current location on the property.
Pieces from these local places filled the client's home with the rich culture and sense of home that only the sunny southwest can bring.
Other pieces were made to complement the rest of the space available from Mexico, Puerta Rico, California, local Tucson showrooms, and art manufacturers in the southeast.
The client’s excitement over each piece inspired Intrepid to curate a truly different and modern southwestern home.
Let Intrepid Interior Design bring the beauty of the southwest to your home or space.
